School Governors
The Governors of the school are responsible for the staffing, finance, premises, curriculum and future planning of the school. The Governors work very closely with the Headteacher in making decisions about the school. At Rhiwbina Primary School there are 17 Governors:
5 are elected by the parents
4 are local authority appointees
4 are co-opted by the Governors
3 are elected by the staff of the school.
The Headteacher is also a Governor. Elections for Parent Governors occur every 4 years. The Chairperson of the Governors can be contacted through the school office.
Our Chair of Governors is now Mr M Sutton
The role of governors
The primary role of governors is to decide with the head teacher what they want the school to achieve and to set the strategic framework for getting there by
- setting aims and objectives for the school ,
- adopting policies and setting targets for achieving them, and
- reviewing progress.
The strategic framework is provided by the School Development Plan and the School Improvement and Action Plan which are drawn up in response to an Estyn inspection.
Governors are responsible also for the school curriculum, the management of the school’s budget and the appointment, discipline, pay and dismissal of the school staff.
