CROESO I'R DERBYN /  WELCOME TO RECEPTION

In Reception we have 3 classes with up to 90 children. In each of the three classes you will find a class teacher and teaching assistants, we like to think of ourselves as one big happy family!

In Reception we stay all day and get to learn and discover lots of new things. You will experience engaging and accessible learning zones, including literacy and numeracy areas, creation stations, role play areas, funky finger challenges, construction and discovery areas. These can be freely accessed throughout both our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

We include a wide range of IT resources in our learning, frequently using interactive whiteboards, iPads and chromebooks. We also use the computers in the IT Suite. Our Forest School area is great for learning all about the environment and how to care for it.... and making a mess in the mud! 

The children learn about a healthy lifestyle and developing their independence skills. We have regular exercise during both indoor PE and outdoor games!  We learn to be independent when getting changed for our PE and Games lessons. Please encourage your child to get dressed on their own as much as possible. We understand that they may find fastenings tricky and are always happy to assist. Unless your child can tie their own shoelaces then they need shoes and trainers with velcro fastenings.

At playtimes the children can bring a healthy snack (fruit/vegetables please).  At lunch times we enjoy our own healthy packed lunch. Keep a lookout on Schoop for further details on hot school dinners as the year progresses. 

We enjoy learning to read and have a book bag which we take home to share with parents and carers. We put lots of useful information in these book bags so please empty them regularly to avoid missing anything important! High Frequency Word Challenge books also travel between home and school, giving us lots of opportunity to improve our sight vocabulary of key words.
