ClassDojo
At Rhiwbeina Primary School, we use an online system in school called ‘Class Dojo’. It is is an excellent communication tool between school and home.
Messages from your child’s class teacher about events and things to remember can be directly sent to you as well as whole school notices. There is the option to have a look through your child's class story and see what your child has been doing in school, it is also a useful platform to celebrate their successes.
This online platform can also be used by teachers and children to send out work and communicate regularly when needed.
Each child has a unique parent access code which is sent home by your child's class teacher. If you have misplaced your child's code please contact the school office and they will be able to give you another copy. Attached to your child's parent access code are instructions and a link for you to log in to the system, either via the app or through an internet page. Once you have registered, school will be able to see that you have joined.
If you have more than one child at Rhiwbeina Primary, once you have registered you will be able to add them on to your account using their unique code. If both parents require access to class dojo, your child's unique code can be used for multiple accounts.
What can ClassDojo do?
- Teachers use it as a communication platform to encourage children and to get parents/carers engaged in their children’s learning.
- Teachers can communicate with parents on a 1:1 messaging service or via the class page where general news and class messages can be shared.
- Teachers can create engaging content including videos and interactive tasks for children to complete as part of their home learning.
- Class Dojo allows parents, teachers, and pupils to work together as a team, share in the classroom experience, and bring big ideas to life in their classrooms and homes.
What will our staff do?
- Share information about events and activities happening in class and within the school
- Send out and reply to individual messages if required (During working hours)
- Post photos of children in class on the class story pages and allow parents to see a snapshot of learning within their children’s class
- Share links to useful websites, important/interesting information.
- Maintain the highest professionalism and security settings at all time when using class dojo
- Automatically invite parents to join their child's Class Dojo page when they start in their class.
What do we expect our parents to do?
- Check Class Dojo for messages
- Make sure they appreciate staff well-being and not expect responses immediately (Even if the message has been seen by the class teacher)
- Use Class Dojo to structure a conversation about their child and what they have been learning.
- NOT screenshot or share any content from Class Dojo on social media or other messaging services.
- NOT use it as an outlet to be aggressive or confrontational to staff.
- Arrange to speak to a teacher if you have any concerns that you wish to discuss.
- Not use it as a replacement for face to face discussions.
What are the features of Class Dojo?
Messages
Messages allow our teachers and parents to message each other, without needing to share phone numbers or contact details. Messages sent out of hours will not be seen by the teacher until the next working day.
Portfolios
ClassDojo Portfolios are digital student portfolios that allow students to share classwork with their teachers and family. Teachers will assign home learning directly to their classes. Teachers and Teaching Assistants can view and approve student work on Portfolios and comment and like the work that is produced. Our students can create and upload photos, videos, drawings through ClassDojo, and can also upload PDFs, and image files from any device to which teachers and parents can respond.
Class Story
Class Stories are instantly updating streams of messages, pictures and videos similar to a social media-style timeline. Every class has their own Story, all of which are shared home with parents. This allows our teachers to share with all families connected to their class. If you are happy for your child’s class teacher to share images of your child on Class Story, you must give consent on Parent Portal.
